Housing First is also effective against discrimination and victimization.

In 2021, Provivienda and HOGAR SÍ made public the evaluation of the Habitat program of Housing First. This evaluation is the first in our country and one of the most comprehensive in Europe and provides evidence of the enormous effectiveness of the Housing First methodology to solve the most chronic cases of homelessness and that have more complex characteristics.

The evaluation was also carried out by a team of independent experts from the Complutense University of Madrid and the consulting firm "Fresno, the right Link". One of the great advantages of joint work between academia and the third sector is the possibilities that arise for the knowledge generated to reach a greater number of audiences.

In this sense, researcher Sonia Panadero (Professor at the Complutense University of Madrid and one of the main researchers of the Habitat evaluation report) and researcher José Juan Vázquez (Professor at the University of Alcalá), have published an article in the "Journal of Social Distress and Homelessness " which refers to the positive impact that the Housing First program has on variables such as the safety and vulnerability of people in situations of homelessness as well as on the reduction of the number of episodes of discrimination. These are issues that are often not addressed by the studies and evaluations carried out on the Housing First methodology.

The article is available at the following link and you can also consult the executive report of the evaluation where you can find the main data on which it is based.
