Provivienda and HOGAR SÍ meet with the Secretary of State for Children and Youth to address youth homelessness

In an effort to address the growing problem of youth homelessness in Spain, Provivienda and HOGAR SÍ have met with the Secretary of State for Children and Youth, Rubén Pérez Correa. The meeting aimed to present the work that both organizations are doing against homelessness and residential exclusion, as well as to discuss strategies to ensure that no young person faces this reality.

The Secretary of State expressed a deep interest in learning in detail about the approach and results of the Provivienda and HOGAR SÍ project. He also highlighted the shared concern about the increase in youth homelessness and stressed the need to "prioritize models, such as Housing First, that combat this problem".

One of the highlights during the meeting was the presentation of the H4Y FUTURO program, which operates under the Housing First for Youth (HF4Y) methodology. This program, developed in partnership by Provivienda and HOGAR SÍ and financed by European Next Generation funds through the Ministry of Social Rights and Agenda 2030 and the Recovery Plan, seeks to generate a radical paradigm shift in the approach to youth homelessness in Spain.

The HF4Y methodology recognizes the need to create youth-specific programs, given the lack of effective response from the traditional system of care, which is generally based on models designed for adults. The adaptation of these models to the needs and realities of homeless youth has been insufficient to date, underscoring the urgency of implementing more tailored and effective approaches.

Youth homelessness is a multidimensional and growing problem that requires a comprehensive and coordinated response. The meeting between Provivienda, HOGAR SÍ and the Secretary of State is a significant step towards building collaborative and effective strategies to ensure a dignified future for all young people in vulnerable situations.
