On October 20, HOGAR SÍ and Provivienda, together with the Ministry of Social Rights and Agenda 2030, will hold the International Meeting "Housing First as a solution to homelessness in Spain" .
The meeting will feature several round tables with international speakers such as Juha Kaakinen, CEO Y-Foundation, Freek Spinnewijn, director of FEANTSA and Geert De Bolle, coordinator at Housing First Belgium Lab.
Nacho Álvarez, Secretary of State for Social Rights of the Ministry of Social Rights and Agenda 2030 and David Lucas, Secretary General for the Urban Agenda and Housing of the Ministry of Transport, Mobility and Urban Agenda will also take part in the meeting.
It is currently estimated that there are between 30,000 and 40,000 people in Spain who are homeless, and that 12.6% of the population has had their right to housing violated at some point in their lives. However, Goal 11 of the SDGs calls on societies to ensure access for all people to adequate, safe and affordable housing and basic services and to improve slums by 2030.
Housing First is a social intervention methodology that breaks with the traditional staircase model of care and provides homeless people with individual, stable and independent housing along with the necessary support to stay in it and move forward in an independent life project.
At this meeting we will present the results of the first evaluation of Housing First in Spain and one of the most complete at European level, developed by the Fresno consultancy together with the Complutense University of Madrid, with which we have demonstrated that in our country it is an efficient and effective solution to eradicate the problem of homelessness.
