The Catalan capital hosts a space for dialogue on the challenges in addressing homelessness and the transfer of knowledge generated from the social innovation projects "Housing Rights" and "H4Y Future" of Provivienda and HOGAR SÍ.
Since 2022, Provivienda and HOGAR SÍ have developed the social innovation projects Derechos a la vivienda and H4Y FUTURO with funding from Next Generation funds through the Plan de Recuperación, Transformación y Resiliencia del Ministerio del Derechos Sociales, Consumo y Agenda 2030, in collaboration with 12 local and regional public administrations. Both projects seek to transform the current system of care for homelessness from deinstitutionalization, which involves moving from the traditional model based on institutional care to a model of personalized community care, where people can choose where and how to live.
In this framework, in collaboration with the Provincial Council and the City Council of Barcelona, Provivienda and HOGAR SÍ have carried out the transfer workshop "Innovation in the attention to homelessness in Barcelona", which was attended by institutional representatives of more than 20 municipalities of the territory. Castellar del Vallès, Gavà, Granollers, Hospitalet de Llobregat, Montcada i Reixac, Ripollet, Sabadell, Sant Cugat del Vallès or Vilafranca del Penedès are some of the municipalities that have participated in the event.
"The program offers a prevention methodology to work with people from the beginning to avoid chronification and take advantage of working in the early stages," said Francesc Hernández Torres, head of the Basic Social Services Support Service of the Barcelona Provincial Council, at the opening of the conference. Also present was Carme Fortea Busquets, director of Homelessness Services of the Barcelona City Council: "How can we municipalities help? With a specific preventive look at the program with two objectives: to avoid the chronification of the situation and to enhance people's autonomy".
"Housing Rights" and "H4Y FUTURE" present innovative solutions that respond to several of the challenges identified in the Marc d'acció per a l'abordatge del sensellarisme a Catalunya 2022-2025, approved by the Generalitat, and that should guide public policies in the field of homelessness in the territory, with the aim of "building a comprehensive and consensual approach model from housing to end homelessness".
From Provivienda and HOGAR SÍ we believe that spaces for dialogue such as this meeting add value to public policies to address homelessness in the province of Barcelona and to improve the quality of life of homeless people in the territory.
